Baldwin Road Resurfacing Scheduled to Start Today

Resurfacing for road between I-75 and Indianwood Road in Orion Township expected to begin today.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects its contractor to begin work on the resurfacing of Baldwin Road between Interstate 75 and Indianwood Road in Orion Township today. The project will involve minor road-base repairs and a 1.5-inch asphalt overlay. The project is expected to be completed by June 14. During the work, the road will remain open to traffic, but one lane will be closed at many times, with traffic directed by flaggers. Motorists should expect delays. Oakland, Orion Township Road Resurfacing Projects to Begin Soon

The Road Commission for Oakland County is resurfacing Stoney Creek Road from Orion Road to Rochester Road, and Baldwin Road from 1-75 to Indianwood Road.

The Road Commission for Oakland County recently announced several road projects, including some projects around Lake Orion and Oakland Township, which may cause traffic delays over the next few weeks. "It is RCOC’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible," a road commission press release states. "This list includes both Road Commission projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission." Find Local Road Construction Projects on New Map

State map shows dates and locations of major MDOT road and bridge projects.

Planning your summer roadtrips, or just want to know when you should take a different route to work? A state highway construction map for 2013 is now available from the Michigan Department of Transportation that shows drivers where and when road and bridge projects are occurring across the state. The free annual map - called "Paving the Way" - is available at all MDOT Transportation Service Centers, regional offices, Welcome Centers and most state rest areas. "MDOT publishes this map to prepare Michigan motorists for the construction season ahead," State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle said in a press release. Joslyn Road Closed Monday, Tuesday in Orion Township

Delays are expected in the area.

Joslyn Road between Brown and Silver Bell roads in Orion Township is closed Monday and Tuesday while the CN Railroad continues to make repairs to two railroad crossings on the road. According to an alert from the Road Commission for Oakland County, significant traffic delays are expected in the area. The closure began Thursday and continued Friday. The railroad re-opened for the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and has closed again to finish the work. During the closures the detour route for through traffic is Brown Road to Giddings Road to Silver Bell Road and back to Joslyn Road and vice versa.

Bike vs. Car: Who Will Reach Library First?

With all of the construction around Rochester Hills, we tested our theory that a bike might be the fastest way to travel during rush hour.

We had the same destination: the Rochester Hills Public Library. We traveled the same distance: according to our RunKeeper maps that kept track on our iPhones, our routes were each about 3.5 miles. But here's where our little test gets fun. Wednesday afternoon, in the height of the always-hectic 5 o'clock traffic, Rochester Patch Editor Kristin Bull drove to the library to return some books. She started at the Village of Rochester Hills and traveled east down the construction-laden Walton Boulevard. At the same time (check out the "ready, set, go" coordination in the accompanying video), Oakland Township Patch Editor Jen Anesi biked the Paint Creek Trail to the library.
