Oakland Township, Lake Orion Students Eligible for Scholarship Contest

Lawrence Technological University will award up to 100 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 per year for 4 years in an essay competition open to Michigan high school seniors.

When it comes to college tuition, a little financial aid never hurts – especially when it comes in the form of scholarships. Through Feb. 1, Lawrence Technological University in Southfield is hosting an essay contest to award up to 100 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 a year for four years. The contest is open to Michigan high school seniors (that means you Oakland Township and Lake Orion students!), but the award must be used at Lawrence Tech. Here's how it works: Up to 100 students who enter the essay contest will win a four-year scholarship to Lawrence Tech. Vote Now: Help Lake Orion Student Win $10K Scholarship Contest

Voting for the #mi2020 college scholarship competition kicks off.

A Lake Orion student needs your help to win a $10,000 scholarship for college. Kyle Y of Lake Orion is one of 55 Michigan students who qualified as a semi-finalist for the #mi2020 scholarship contest by submitting a video explaining the importance of investing in a higher education, and how the Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all students is the right investment for Michigan to make. In the video, which does not use the student's full name, Kyle says, "College nowadays is a necessity, you have to have some sort of college degree to get just about any job out there today, meaning that you're almost forced into debt." $10,000 Competition Promotes Plan to Offer Free Tuition for Michigan Students

High school seniors are invited to enter #mi2020 scholarship contest while Senate Democrats prepare to introduce legislation this week to offer free in-state tuition.

High school seniors are being encouraged to enter a new $10,000 scholarship competition as a means to promote a state Democrat-backed plan called "Michigan 2020" that would provide free in-state college tuition for every Michigan student. The college affordability plan, announced in January and set to be introduced this week with approval from Michigan Senate Democrats, would give each graduate of a Michigan high school an education grant of approximately $9,500 each year for in-state university or community college tuition. The estimated $1.8 billion proposal would be funded by putting a term limit on corporate tax credits and charging state sales tax to online retailers. Lake Orion Senior is a MHSAA Scholar-Athlete

Dana Schrauben of Lake Orion High School is one of 13 Class A winners of the $1,000 scholarship.

On Tuesday the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced the Class A winners of its Scholar-Athlete Award and Dana Schrauben of Lake Orion High School is one of the 13 recipients. Overall, 32 student athletes from all school classifications combined receive a $1,000 college scholarship from this Farm Bureau Insurance sponsored award. Alex Taylor, Hannah Lee and Alexa Giovanatti of Adams High School were finalists. According to the MHSSA release, Schrauben played three years of basketball and volleyball in high school and will be playing varsity soccer for her fourth year this spring.
