Stoney Creek Honors Late French Teacher With Donation — And Memories

The parents of Susan Jarrell accept a check for $18,000 from the school community; 'Your extra effort here is going to benefit our children,' her father says.

Dennis and Linda Pawlecki always taught their daughter, Susan Jarrell, to pay it forward. This week, they understood that she had taken that lesson, learned greatly from it, and then instilled it in her students at Stoney Creek High School. Jarrell, a beloved French teacher at Stoney Creek and at Hart Middle School in Rochester, died Jan. 10. Police say her ex-husband, Kenneth Jarrell, 46, shot Susan before shooting himself.   Susan Jarrell was 45; she had three children: Caroline, Ellyn and Nick. On Tuesday afternoon, the Stoney Creek community, led by Principal Larry Goralski, presented a check for $18,000 to the Pawleckis; that check will help provide for the education and care for their grandchildren, they said. The money has been …

"Susan could've done anything in life and chose teaching as her calling," Wilkes said. "This is a teachable moment  ... for a lesson of faith, community, forgiveness and belief in the future to come." Jarrell, 45, of Bloomfield Hills, was found shot to death in the driveway …

Susan was my daughter's favorite 8th grade teacher. She was always kind and full of zest. She was very "hands on." My daughter was always talking about her French teacher and the class. Friends of Slain Rochester Teacher Susan Jarrell: World Lost a 'True Gem'

French language teacher was a Girl Scout leader, soccer mom and school volunteer who lived for her children.

Susan Jarrell was a French teacher with a passion for all things Paris — she once studied abroad and was known to keep the attention of a group of Girl Scouts just by speaking French to them. She was also a friend with a "heart of gold" who would do anything for anyone, anytime. More than all of those things, Jarrell was a mom who embraced her children, volunteering for auctions and staff appreciation days at her kids' schools. She was always watching from the sidelines whether the sport be volleyball or soccer or track and field. "She was the most caring woman; she had the ability to draw people in and make them feel comfortable," said Francie Vachon, a good friend of Jarrell. "She was a true angel." Jarrell, a teacher at Stoney Creek …
