Jail, Golf Ban for Oakland Township Man in Golf Club Attack

Glenn Steven Lott pleads no contest to charges stemming from June 6 attack.

An Oakland Township man accused of attacking his golf companion with a golf club pleaded no contest Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court to charges stemming from the June 6 attack, according to the Oakland Press.

Judge Rudy Nichols accepted the plea from Glenn Steven Lott, a 60-year-old Oakland Township man, to a count of aggravated assault, the report indicated. He had faced a charge of felonious assault—or assault with a deadly weapon—which carries a sentence of up to four years in prison, the report indicated. One stipulation of the deal, the report indicated, is that the man agree to not enter a golf course in Oakland, Wayne or Macomb counties.

The man's sentence will likely be one year in jail with two years of probation, the report indicated.

The incident occurred on the 12th hole at Westwynd Golf Course on Adams Road in Oakland Township.

According to an Oakland County Sheriff's Department incident report, the two men were acquaintances and part of a foursome. Witnesses told deputies that Lott broke a golf club over the West Bloomfield man's arm, then used the broken club to stab the injured arm, after the West Bloomfield man asked about a score on a previous hole.

The report said that two other members of the foursome held Lott down, while the West Bloomfield man drove toward the clubhouse in a golf cart. The Oakland Township man broke loose, drove away in a second golf cart, and left the area in his car before deputies arrived.

The West Bloomfield man was treated at the scene and went on his own to an Urgent Care facility, where he received stitches.

According to the report, deputies found half the broken golf club, a Callaway 5 iron, on the golf courseand the other half in the Oakland Township man's golf bag.
